We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for August ! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Fabiana Silva!
Fabiana is absolutely wonderful , warm and super friendly ! She always has good advices for other moms . I love talking to her after class . I've met her few years ago and I'm so glad that she still comes to SS, even though her kids are already at school!~ Instructor Ewa
Fabiana is warm and friendly and smart! In addition to being a fun person to work out with, she also gives great mom-to-mom advice. She faces every challenge with a smile. I love her longtime dedication to our village!~Instructor Ashley
Fabiana is such a ray of sunshine! Every class she attends she is always smiling and motivating fellow mamas. We are so lucky to have such a great mama in our tribe!~Instructor Lyndsey
We asked Fabiana a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:
1. Who are the members of your family?
Alexandre, Fabiana, Felipe (12 years old) and Alice (6 years old)
2. What is/was your career?
We are from Brazil, we moved here because of my husbands job and we have been here for 6 years. He works at Pan American Health Organization. I'm a Brazilian Journalist. In Brazil, I worked for almost 15 years as a TV news reporter. In the last 4 years, I have been in charge of a motherhood blog in Portuguese called "Tudo Sobre Minha Mae" which means, "Everything About My Mother."
3. When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?
I was foreign with a 4 month old baby in my lap, without friends and I didn't know English that well when I first decided to start classes with Fit4MomMoco. It was a suggestion from a friend who lives in Florida, and she attended the program. She told me "Stroller Strides is a great opportunity to workout and make friends."
My first impression was that it was a wonderful place where nobody will judge my post baby body or my accent! I felt very comfortable. I did classes with my daughter Alice until she started pre-school in 2013. After 2 years without any actions to start working out again, I ran in to Dana and Ewa in Wheaton Mall. I had missed them so much! They asked me "Why don't you come back?" So I thought to my self, Yes why don't I start going to Stroller Strides again?! Most of the time when I attend I am stroller-less because my kids are now "big kids". But I still love the workouts, the fellow moms, the good vibes and I also enjoy talking about motherhood issues (which of course connects with my job as a blogger).
4. Where can we find you? What is your Fit4Mom routine these days?
I try to attend classes Monday-Friday and I usually attend, The Rio, Montgomery Mall and Wheaton Mall locations.
5. What is your favorite strides exercise?
My favorite Strides exercise is running around the lake at The Rio and I also like the exercises that target your arms and legs.
6. What has being a mom taught you?
Being a mother is part of my essence. I would never live without this lovely and crazy experience. As a mother, I always remind myself that we are better when we accept our imperfections. Nobody, even moms, are perfect. And it’s imperative on this journey to have friends around us on the same page.
7. List 3 of your favorite things.
My 3 favorites things: movies, dinner with friends and traveling
8. Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?
I was surprised when my son decided by himself no more diaper during the night. I had avoided the potty train at night many times. I was lazy about it. And one night, before his sleep time, he told me: "Mom, today my swim teacher asked us who used a diaper. I was the only one who answers yes. I will not use diaper anymore! I'm a big boy". He was 2 and a half, and he did it!
When my daughter was three, she was looking my wedding album, with a lot of pictures about a happy moment and started to cry. I asked what happened and she answered: "Why I am not in this party? It's not fair!". And another thing that she thinks is also unfair is "Why I will never be older than my brother?"
9. Any advice for other moms out there?
Motherhood is a planet of judgments. But don't worry about your imperfections. There is a secret: none of us are perfect. And everything's gonna be alright! (Like the song!)
10. What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first Fit4Mom MoCo class?
You will instantly become part of a family, a healthy and amazing family!
Thank you, Fabiana, for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!
Check back to see who our MOM will be in September!
