We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County, and I thought it would be nice if we could get to know a little more about each one of them. I'm excited to continue our spotlight this month with....Katie Henry!
Katie joined us as a Stroller Strides client last winter in Clarksburg. I remember her first day vividly even though I wasn't even in town that day! But she reached out to me to let me know just how much she loved her first class experience -- enough that she already knew she wanted to become more involved. Fast forward almost a year, and she's teaching Stroller Strides classes and getting ready to jump right in as a Body Back coach. That's right! She just finished her Body Back co-teaching this morning (yahoo!), and will be teaching a few more times a week for us beginning next week. If you haven't been to Katie's class yet, I recommend you do! She is full of energy & enthusiasm, and she'll make sure you and your little(s) have a great experience in class!
Read on to get to know more about Katie and her time with FIT4MOMMOCO...
1. Who are the members of your family?
Brad and I welcomed our son, Austin, into our family last July. We love experiencing new things as a family of three.
2. Where do you typically teach?
I primarily teach in Clarksburg, but love the Saturdays I get to teach at Rio with all the wonderful moms and dads that come out for our family class.
3. Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor for FIT4MOM Montgomery County.
I have always loved group exercise classes and wanted to become an instructor but I could never find the right fit until I discovered Stroller Strides. After my first class when Austin was 5 months old I knew I wanted to join the FIT4MOM team and was lucky enough to find out Heather was looking for a new instructor. I absolutely love being able to help moms lead a healthier lifestyle through exercise and connecting with other moms.
4. What is your favorite thing to teach?
My favorite thing about class is integrating cardio with strength training. There is nothing better than going from squats and bicep curls to burpees and hill runs, I know you all couldn't agree more. :)
5. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?
The best thing about being an instructor is creating an environment where each mom feels comfortable no matter what her fitness level may be. It is all about doing what makes you feel good and I hope I can bring that to each of my classes.
6. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?
Before becoming a mom, although I enjoyed working out, it often felt like a chore. Since having Austin it has become a passion of mine to be as healthy as I can be for myself and my family. Working out helps me feel strong and confident in life.
7. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?
I was a certified Spinning instructor years ago but never used my certification because life got in the way. I got sick with Lyme Disease, was in grad school, and planning a wedding soon after becoming certified so teaching Spinning just never happened. This was always disappointing to me so I am very grateful that Heather invited me to join the FIT4MOM team so I could finally help others in the realm of fitness.
8. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?
I look forward to meeting more of the moms in Our Village over time. Thank you to the moms I have met, your conversation, support and advice go a long way! FIT4MOM rocks!
Katie, thank you thank you for being such an integral part of this team! I appreciate all you do for all of us here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County!
Check back next month for our next spotlight!
