We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for May! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Andrea Kenny!
"Andrea always has a smile on her face. She makes the effort to come to both Stroller Strides and Body Back throughout the week ready to work hard despite being busy with her own business. Andrea is an awesome addition to our village! " ~Instructor Katie
"Andrea is a consistently hard worker and always positive!" ~Instructor Maya
We asked Andrea a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:
1. Who are the members of your family?
My husband Mike, daughter Charlotte (3) and son Owen (18 months).
2. What is/was your career?
I own my own business called The Rest, Lifestyle & Event Management, LLC. We do event planning and also concierge/lifestyle services. I started the business with a friend a little over a year ago after being in sales/management for a large corporation for 11 years, and I LOVE it! I'm also a senior consultant for Beautycounter which is a cosmetic/skincare company that features all safe products for women, men, children and babies.
3. When was your first class and what do you remember about it?
May of 2015...I remember it being HARD! I was amazed by all of the strong women who were killing it! I was just out of the dreaded first trimester with my son where I could barely get out of bed, and I struggled to keep up that day!
4. Where can be find you? What is your Fit4Mom routine these days?
Body Back on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the Kentlands for sure, and depending on my work schedule that week, Rio or Clarksburg Stroller Strides Monday-Saturday. I'll also be at the grand opening of Stroller Barre!
5. What is your favorite strides exercise?
Child's pose :) haha just kidding. Honestly, I'm a runner so I love running, but I also love burpees and planks...because when I first started Stroller Strides, I could barely do either. Now I can, and I continue to challenge myself to do more burpees and longer planks and it makes me feel like I'm making progress, which is such a great feeling!
6. What has being a mom taught you?
A lot! Patience, balance, being more thoughtful/mindful of what I say and do...they're always watching! Most recently I've learned to let things go more. I can't control everything. We are going to be late sometimes and my daughter is going to insist on wearing something crazy to school, but that's ok. There are more important things to really worry about!
7. List 3 of your favorite things.
(Besides my family because obviously that's #1!)
- Great weather- Everything is better outdoors- grilling, playing, the pool/beach, Stroller Strides...everything!
- Pinterest...and recreating anything and everything...crafts, recipes, party planning, gifts, organization, etc!
- Traveling- I love experiencing new things, meeting new people and making new memories.
8. Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?
So there is one grocery store by us that also sells beer/wine, and we used to frequent that store (it's all about efficiency...we could do grocery shopping and pick up beer and wine in one stop!). My daughter had just turned 3 and I was at this store with her and her brother, both in the shopping cart, and in her loudest, most innocent 3 year old voice she said "mommy, are we here to get beer for daddy?" All the heads around me turned and I immediately received some very judgy, disapproving looks from strangers. I was kind of embarrassed because they were definitely wondering why my very young child knew what beer was and that you could buy it there, but to be honest, I was also a little proud! She pays attention and has a great memory!
9. Any advice for other moms out there?
Be you, follow your instincts, don't panic and DON'T Google ANYTHING! Haha. Ask for help and advice when you need it, but ultimately you need to trust that you know your kid(s) best, everyone is different, you're doing a great job and your kids LOVE you no matter what! (I have to constantly remind myself of ALL of that!)
10. What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first Fit4Mom MoCo class?
DO IT!!! Seriously. And if you struggle through the first class and don't make an instant friend, do it again...and keep going. You'll get stronger, and the women around you are in the same boat...they need you just as much as you need them! It truly takes a village, and I'm beyond thankful for what Fit4Mom MOCO has given me over the last year...some of my closest mommy friends and my kids' best friends!
Thank you, Andrea, for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!
Check back to see who our MOM will be in June!
