We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for May! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Rebecca Nigmann.
"Rebecca has been an active Stroller Strider for quite some time now, and she's an inspiration to others around her. I can always count on her to work hard in class, ask for modifications if she needs/wants them, and she shows up regardless of the elements. When it's pouring outside and class is still outside, Rebecca is there - with a smile and a great attitude! I'm fortunate to know Rebecca, and I love having her in classes!" ~ Heather
We asked Rebecca a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:
1. Who are the members of your family?
Myself, my husband Bernd, and our sons Matthias (10 years next month) and Lukas (4 years).
2. What is/was your career?
I have a Master of Public Health degree, but I've yet to use it since I became a mom while in school and became a stay-at-home mama. Before school, I worked on the publications/communications team for a project supporting public health in Africa.
3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Montgomery County, and what has it done for you?
I started attending in the Fall of 2012. I was not an exercise person before, but I needed something to get me out and moving after two kids and moving to the suburbs. It totally did that and I met lots of nice people. I had surgery a year ago and the community was very supportive with meals while I recovered. Also, I have arm muscles now.
4. What is your favorite class exercise?
Probably push-ups because my pride that I can now actually do them helps counteract the work of doing them.
5. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
The amount of laundry! On a serious note, how quickly time passes (10! Really!).
6. List 3 of your favorite things:
- Sunglasses (I've been known to wear them in the rain)
7. What your proudest mommy moment so far?
Becoming an advocate for my child. I am not an outgoing person and I hate making waves, but my older son has some special needs. Being able to overcome my natural reserve to make sure he gets what he needs has been hard but necessary. Things are going really well with him now.
8. Any advice for other moms out there?
The reality of your family life may be different from how you planned or imagined it, but that does not mean it will be worse.
Thank you, Rebecca, for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you!
Check back to see who our MOM will be in June!
