September's MOM- Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for September! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Chrissy Fleishman!

"From the minute I met Chrissy at Stroller Strides I was instantly drawn to her positive attitude and love for her son, Bram. The more I learned about her, the more I was inspired by her story. It's rare you meet someone with such a unique journey to motherhood, it makes me feel even more grateful to have such a wonderful mom like Chrissy in our village. I always look forward to seeing her at the Saturday class. Keep up the good work, Chrissy! You deserve this recognition." ~Instructor Jessica

We asked Chrissy a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

1. Who are the members of your family?

I'm Chrissy. I'm married (9.5 years!!!) to an amazing man, Lee, and we have our 11 month old son Bram. We also have a boxer, Luci-Fur.

2. What is/was your career?

I am an office manager of a large accounting firm, overseeing their 3 DC area offices. I've been with the company 8 years.

3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Montgomery County, and what has it done for you?

I joined this spring. I was looking for a way to exercise, meet moms but still spend time with Bram since I work full time. I've met several mom friends which was my main motivation. It also made me get outside and be active which is a lifestyle I want to model for my son. I wasn't honestly looking to loose weight or even get fit (was more looking to build stamina), but even with just attending stroller strides once a week it has influenced other parts of my life as well and I'm getting more and more fit.

4. What is your favorite class exercise?

Anything but squats... Squats are the devil. I enjoy the partner exercises and singing and entertaining the little ones.

5. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

People used to say I had an "ice heart". I was never emotional or would cry. I'm a blubbering mess now, I can't even make it through a Jiff commercial without tearing up. My heart is exploding with love for my miracle baby and its oozing out of my tear ducts daily. I never knew I could love someone so much.

6. List 3 of your favorite things:

Besides my family I would say coffee, wine and sleep lol. Too cliche??

7. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

Our son was born via a gestational surrogate and I induced lactation to be able to breastfeed him. It took a lot of research, planning, time, energy and courage to succeeded. And I did! I'm really proud of that. I could have easily not gone through it all and no one would have thought less of me. But the fact that I put all the extra effort into it makes it such a beautiful experience. We're still nursing him now at 11 months and don't see any end in sight.

8. Any advice for other moms out there?

I try to remind myself that everything is a season. Meaning they're only little once, eventually they won't need your help or your cuddles. You'll never get this time back. Enjoy it. Ride the wave, don't fret over laundry or a dust free house, or even getting to the gym. Yes get your "me time" for sure, but make sure to enjoy the peaks and valleys of being a parent too.

Thank you, Chrissy, for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!

Check back to see who our MOM will be in October!
