April 2022 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for April! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local mamas at FIT4MOM Montgomery + Frederick Counties. We want to highlight her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor.... Leayne Dempsey!

I remember when Leayne first started Stroller Strides when her oldest son was just a tiny baby. Not only did she work hard in class but you could often see her with lap top in tow focused on starting her own business while Lowell napped after class. Today Leayne, now the strong mama of two boys continues coming to class ready to hustle, share a funny mom moment and offer a smile to another mom in class. Leayne exudes hard work, passion and commitment. Keep on keeping on, Leayne. You are an incredible example for Lowell & Langston.~Instructor Katie H.

Leayne and I first started Fit4mom around the same time. I love seeing her in class and working out with her. She is an amazing, strong, and hard working mama. I have loved seeing her embrace and take on motherhood with a smile. Leayne is a rockstar!!~Instructor Liz

We asked Leayne a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

My husband Lowell, and my two sons Lowell III (3.5 yrs.) and Langston (6 mos.).

What is/was your career?

I’ve had many careers. Currently, I am the CEO of Theatre Major, LLC, an educational consulting company that advises high school seniors applying to collegiate acting and musical theatre programs. I’m also a proud member of the Actors Equity Association which has given me the opportunity to perform professionally on local stages like Olney Theatre Center and the Kennedy Center. Formerly, I enjoyed 7 years as a high school teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My first class was right after the Black Friday sale 6 months after I had my first son. I was so nervous. It was at the Clarksburg Outlets, and it was Katie Henry’s Stroller Strides class. I remember thinking, “Oh my God, I don’t know if I can even run.” I’ll never forget how welcoming and encouraging Katie was during that class. She even ran alongside me. That class was the beginning of MANY classes to follow. It was nice to know I wasn’t alone.

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

I attend the RIO and Clarksburg Stroller Strides classes, and Body Boost classes.

What is your favorite exercise that you have done with FIT4MOM (in Strides, Barre, 360, Body Ignite or Body Boost)?

I love the 1-mile run at the beginning of the Body Well program. I’m amazed how much easier that run is at the end of the program. You’re so much stronger!

What has being a mom taught you?

Grace upon grace upon grace. And I’m still learning that.

List 3 of your favorite things.

1. This Is Us (SO sad this is it’s final season. Not sure how I’ll fill this void in my heart.lol)

2. Theatre! All things theatre. It’s my passion (dare I say, calling), and I absolutely love it.

3. The hour after bedtime when my husband and I sit to watch Abbott Elementary. Quiet time is rare in mommyhood, and nothing beats good company and a laugh.

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

With my first son, I’d always come to class with my workout pants inside out. lol. I was SO TIRED. lol. The moms would just be like, “You did it again Leayne. It’s cool.” Just happy a little crazy is welcomed at the Fit4Mom classes.

Any advice for other moms out there?

Our bodies are wonderful. They are strong. They are always changing. And that is beautiful. Your beauty is now, and not at the point when you’ve reached whatever goal you’ve made yourself. Beauty is IN the process, not the result.

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommocofrederick class?

OMG! GO! Great advice on how to prepare for each class can be found on the Fit4Mom Moco and Frederick Instagram Stories account.
