August 2022 MOM - Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for August! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local mamas at FIT4MOM Montgomery + Frederick Counties. We want to highlight her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Alex Cano!

Alex is so inspiring and works so hard. I love having her in my stroller classes. She is always a bright light and happy to chat after class about life and kids.~Instructor Liz

I met Alex few years ago but got to know her more during summer body well session . She is strong, determined , consistent and joyful ! Works hard and is always up for a challenge ! Her smile, energy and positivity is contagious. I love having her in my early morning classes! ~ Instructor Ewa

Alex is so much fun to have in class! She always comes ready to work hard and her smile is seriously contagious. I love watching her kiddos grow, and I love watching how they look at her even more. They're an awesome bunch, and I'm always happy to see them on Thursdays at 360! ~ Franchise Owner/Instructor Heather

We asked Alex a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Xavi (5), Leo (3), Isla (1), my husband Pablo and our perfect pups Archer and Gatsby!

What is/was your career?

I work with the National Museum of Natural History’s Paleobiology (Dinos!) Department digitizing their collections, and I teach swim lessons!

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My first class was Strides around Rio with Maya in the summer of 2017. I thought I was in shape since I’d lost most of the baby weight, but I realized that wasn’t true, and I missed the feeling of pushing my body physically. I’ve been hooked ever since!

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

You can find me at all the early morning options at Rio, and sometimes Clarksburg with all 3 of my kiddos!

What is your favorite exercise that you have done with FIT4MOM (in Strides, Barre, 360, Body Ignite or Body Boost)?

I think I’m the only one who loves jump squats!

What has being a mom taught you?

The best lesson I’ve learned as a mom is that there’s no one right way to do anything, and we are all doing our best. I’ve become much less judgmental and have found that giving grace to others allows me to do the same for myself.

List 3 of your favorite things.

Coffee ice cream, swimming, and listening to all the trashy audiobooks!

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

My most embarrassing mommy moment is any time I panic that I can’t find Isla toddling around because I’m carrying her!

Also the time that I was potty training Xavi and we were at Rio in the evening and he very confidently ran to a shrub next to the boardwalk and dropped his pants to pee.

Any advice for other moms out there?

Don’t be afraid to reach out and lean on another mama! Those connections really make a difference in our lives and it feels good on both ends to support and feel supported. I love this village because of this! (Also keep everything in your car, the second you take it out, you’ll need it! 🤪

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommocofrederick class?

So cliché because I think it’s the same every time, but just do it! You won’t ever regret a work out, a moment to focus on yourself and getting out of the house!
