December 2019 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for December! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Summer Escobar!

To say that Summer is a supermom is an understatement! She is a superwoman in every possible way ! 7 kids, homeschooling , having her own business , making to at least 6 classes a week and pushing quadruple stroller twice a week...She is strong, determined , kind and super friendly ! I’m so glad she joined our village , we can all learn so much from her ! I love having her and her gang in my classes. ~ Instructor Ewa

I’m so glad Summer has made FIT4MOM part of her life! She is motivated to get to classes despite any obstacles that might get in the way. Setting an amazing example for her family by making her health and wellness a priority! ~ Instructor Claire

We asked Summer a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Here we go.... my husband Hugo, our seven kiddos ...Dominic, 19; Dasia, 17; Giovanni, 14; and my workout buddies Aiden, 12; Miranda, 8; Elianna, 4 and Nicolás who just turned 1. We also have 2 furbabies... Luna (golden retriever) who is 11 and Jax (chocolate lab) who is almost 4

What is/was your career?

What I went to school for and got my degree in was paralegal/legal assistant studies but I have not done much with that. The kids keep me busy so instead I am their teacher (I homeschool up to 8th grade) and run a small business from my home making custom apparel, etc.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

I did my first free trial class on March 28, 2019. I remember feeling overwhelmed, out of place and completely disappointed in myself. I cried during that class. The workout was hard. I had been going through some pretty bad depression at the time and it might have been my most bottom moment. BUT...immediately after class, the instructor (Ewa) and other ladies in class were sooooo nice and made me feel better almost instantly. So much so that I really felt like i NEEDED this in my life. I didnt officially sign up until May though as we worked out how we were going to make it work financially. But I am so glad i joined and since then have gotten a little bit of myself back.

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

Currently I am doing my first BBT so early mornings I am at Rio on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30am. I also do Body Back on Mondays and Fridays at 5:30am. Occasionally I will try to make a Wednesday 5:30am 360 class... a BB and/or SS Saturday class and occasionally a sunday 360 but it all depends on the kiddos schedules. I I also do SS or Barre Monday -Friday. Mostly pike and rose when it was warm and Thursdays at MM but now that it is colder and I have my nephews twice a week we tend to follow the closest playgroup and do the class before. I am always the late one with a big crew in tow.

What is your favorite strides exercise?

I like any leg work. After 7 kids my core sucks and I have horrible balance but leg/butt work really makes me feel like I am accomplishing something. Lol

What has being a mom taught you?

Patience. Patience. Patience. Love is neverending and you can always make room in your heart for more and time is so so precious and goes way too fast so you MUST enjoy every single moment, milestone, smile, laugh, hug and special occasion because little people change so fast and grow so quickly and you will miss it.

List 3 of your favorite things.

My kids, unicorns (obsessed since I was little) and the ocean

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

This was the hardest question. I feel like I can't go a day without some kind of story to tell. Life is always an adventure when you have so many kids and we have plenty of funny stories to share. One that sticks out though was spring break 2018. My oldest daughter was as usual being a great big sister and offered to have our youngest daughter ride on her shoulders. Elianna was newly potty trained and was doing great.... until this moment when she just decided or maybe she didnt even realize that she would start peeing on her big sis. Neither noticed/said a word until I was about to capture this sweet pic of them looking at the water together and realized Dasias back was wet...and soon realizing why and what had happened. Yup. Fun day. Far from home. With of course no change of clothes for either. 🤷‍♀️ but these are the things we are now used to and laugh about but in the moment aren't so much fun. Lol

Any advice for other moms out there?

All kids/babies are different and unique and learn and do things at their own pace. Don't let the comparisons of others stress you and blind you from enjoying watching your individual amazing child express and be themselves. Again, it goes so fast. So enjoy every step of the way. Once you think you got a stage in their life down... it is onto the next. It's a forever amazing journey being a parent.

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommoco class?

Do it. Take that first class. Then, Keep doing it. It only gets better with time. It saved me at a time when I wasn't my best self and has helped get me back to being me.

Thank you, Summer for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!

Check back to see who our MOM will be in January!
