We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for December! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Andie Burke!
"Andie is so dedicated to her fitness goals she would often do Stroller Strides and Body Back in the same day. Now that's impressive! Go Andie!" ~Instructor Jessica
"It has been incredible to see Andie grow as an athlete over the last few months. She pushes herself out of her comfort zone and it shows. Keep up the hard work, Andie!!" ~Instructor Katie
We asked Andie a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:
1. Who are the members of your family?
Stephen (my husband of almost ten years), Amelia (2 1/2 years), Emerson (8 months), and Kuzco the Dog (9).
2. What is/was your career?
I still work one night shift a week as a Pediatric Transplant Nurse at Georgetown. It's a bit crazy sometimes, but I do love the babies!
3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Montgomery County, and what has it done for you?
I did my first ever class this past May, after I saw a friend (Thank you, Christine Cole!) tagged in a post about Stroller Strides on Facebook. I kept going to more and more classes, and it changed my life (that sounds so dramatic to say, but seriously...). The other day, my daughter Amelia was being a little crazy while I was trying to change her diaper, and I asked her what she was doing. She quickly replied, "I'm squeezing my GLUTES!" I just about died from laughing. It really hit home that the kiddos are always watching and always listening. I never thought it would be possible for me to set a good example of fitness, consistently lose weight, or ever make amazing mom friends--but Fit4Mom has done that for me through Stroller Strides and Body Back!! Thank you Fit4Mom MoCo!!
4. What is your favorite class exercise?
Anything arms (Michelle Obama, I'm comin' for you!). Also, I'm really learning to love freedom runs. It feels so easy after jogging with the stroller!
5. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
I was surprised that from the moment I had my babies, I felt like gravity shifted and was constantly pulling me towards them--especially while nursing. They both arrived as little strangers, but I loved them ferociously from first sight. It's such a strange thing.
6. List 3 of your favorite things:
At this exact moment, I love Cadbury chocolate, drawers of clean folded laundry, and non-traditional Christmas movies.
7. What is your proudest mommy moment so far?
When my daughter first gave me an unprompted hug and said "I just love you, Mommy." (My heart melted)
8. Any advice for other moms out there?
Make some goals just for yourself. Prioritize them, and then reward yourself when you hit milestones. Doing a cycle of Body Back was incredibly intimidating, and I learned a ton about myself going through it.
Thank you, Andie, for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!
Check back to see who our MOM will be in January!
