January 2019 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our first MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for 2019! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Ali Pittman!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ali when she wasn’t smiling. Her personality and cheeriness is contagious (even on days when she’s exhausted). She is such a great mama to JoJo, wonderful person to be around, and friend! I’m lucky to have her in my tribe and call her my friend. ❤️~ Instructor Lyndsey

Allie is such a bright and warm person. She has a great sense of humor and is very fun to be around. She shows up to every class with a smile and is a great mama. I am so glad to know her and have her as a part of our village! ~ Instructor Kelci

Ali is a ray of sunshine . The minute she walks in to the class she lights up the room. She is fun to be around , I’m glad I’ve met her and her precious girl JoJo! ~ Instructor Ewa

Who are the members of your family?

My husband Travis and I are parents to a shy-in-public but silly-and-rambunctious-at-home 21 month old (Josephine) and a very patient beagle (Charlie)... and another baby girl expected next month!

What is/was your career?

I am a pediatric ER registered nurse; I hang out with Jojo during the week, then work in the ER on Friday and Saturday nights and leave Papa in charge!

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My first class was the Grand Opening at Pike & Rose. I remember being in groups with Lyndsey and Ewa (who continue to simultaneously make my daughter laugh and kick my butt!), and meeting moms who I now count among my best friends.

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

You can find me at Chevy Chase or KOA Sports, and I’m looking forward to resuming my Montgomery Mall/Pike & Rose routine in the spring - only this time with a double stroller :)

What is your favorite strides exercise?

Lyndsey does this squat-high kick routine to the “Hair Up!” song from Trolls - I had never heard it before she played it the first time, but it never fails to motivate me even on my least-motivated mornings!

What has being a mom taught you?

PATIENCE - with others, with my daughter, and with myself! It is still something I have to work on every day. As an ER nurse, I do well in big emergency situations - but it's the combination of alllll the little day-to-day things that I still sometimes find challenging. I tend to like rules and order, and being a mom is helping me get more comfortable with “coloring outside the lines!”

List 3 of your favorite things.

  1. A good story (books/movies/tv shows - I love anything with heart, comedy, and a strong female lead)

  2. Tacos (extra avocado, cilantro and lime)

  3. Massages

Keep in mind I’m 8 months pregnant while writing this…

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

Oh gosh, I think my brain has purged the most embarrassing moments as a defense mechanism. But I do remember Jojo having a massive diaper blowout while the two of us were by ourselves on a packed cross-country flight. My morning sickness was threatening to make an even bigger mess, she was screaming, and the the man in front of us in line for the lavatory kept shooting me dirty looks. As soon as he went into the restroom, a stern-looking flight attendant who was standing nearby made a big huffing noise - I was convinced that she, too, was irritated with us! But instead she said loudly, “Some people act as if they were never children themselves!” I didn’t know whether to hug her or cry or laugh but I will never forget that moment of understanding and connection - it meant so much to me. I think it's good for us all to remember that we were once cranky toddlers, too!

Any advice for other moms out there?

Find your people! Childrearing is even more fun as a team sport, and other moms make the best teammates.

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommoco class?

Go! And then go again. And again. Some days I go for the workout, some days I go for my mom-friends, some days I go for playgroup, and some days I go because I’ll go crazy if I don’t get my toddler out of the house. I maintain that all of those reasons are valid, and I’ve never regretted an hour spent at Strides!

Thank you, Ali for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!

Check back to see who our MOM will be in February!
