January 2020 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for January! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Elizabeth Dugan!

We asked Elizabeth a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Elizabeth is such a wonderful person! She shows up to class and gets work done! She wall sits through emails and gets her workout in however she can. I’m so impressed with her determination. Even if she can’t stay the whole class she still comes and does what she can. She is a great mama and a great friend and I am so happy she is part of this village! ~ Instructor Kelci

I love how Elizabeth is multitasking. Wall sits while answering e-mails on her laptop is the best mama boss move :) I love having her in my classes, always ready, always pushing herself with the biggest smile on her face. I am so happy she is part of our village!~Instructor Ewa

Who are the members of your family?

My husband Brian, daughter Madeline (5 ½ ) and son Matthew (2 ½) and our cat Pumpkin

What is/was your career?

I am a genetic counselor and currently work in a clinical genetics lab, however I mostly work remotely.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My first class was in November of 2017 with Lyndsey – I loved it and her, and was totally hooked! I had worked out a lot before having children and this was the perfect way for me to get back to it—Matthew was about 6 months old then.

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

I attend classes at many locations, depending on what is happening that day – Chevy Chase, Montgomery Mall, Wheaton, Rockville, Gaithersburg….sometimes I have one child with me, sometimes two, and sometimes my laptop!!

What is your favorite strides exercise?

Believe it or not, I like burpees and squat jumps – they really work your whole body and are a challenge.

What has being a mom taught you?

Being a mom has taught me to enjoy the moments I have with my kids, because they really do change and grow quickly. Also, to appreciate time to myself- however little of it I may have.

List 3 of your favorite things.

Food, exercise, the beach

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

Most embarrassing – going to Badlands on the wrong day for a birthday party, one of the first Madeline was invited to in preschool and she was so excited – now I am super neurotic about dates/times for parties!

Any advice for other moms out there?

Try to laugh at your kids at times when you may feel like you are getting frustrated – and don’t worry about the small things.

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommoco class?

Just try it, no matter how tired, out of shape or uncoordinated you may feel – it’s a lot of fun, and a wonderful group of women! I have said this to many other moms and instructors over the years – no matter how little I slept, how bad of a mood I am in, if I go to class, I ALWAYS feel better. It really is great for me and I would encourage anyone to give it a try.

Thank you, Elizabeth for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!

Check back to see who our MOM will be in February!
