January 2021 MOM - Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for January! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local mamas at FIT4MOM Montgomery + Frederick Counties. We want to highlight her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Madhura Valverde!

Madhura brings great energy and enthusiasm to all of the classes she attends. I love that she has fully embraced the shift to virtual classes. She is totally conquering the Winter Show Up Show Down challenge! ~ Instructor Ashley

Madhura is on fire attending lots of virtual and in person classes . She is dedicated , committed and focused on reaching her goals at Body Well sessions. Her smiles shines and energy is contagious. I love having her in my classes and I can’t wait until I can give her a big hug to congratulate her ! ~ Instructor Ewa

I miss seeing Madhura for class at Wheaton Mall! But it’s awesome to see how much she is participating virtually. 4 classes in a day! She has dived whole heartedly into Body Well and has been doing sessions continuously since the Spring. I’m super impressed by her commitment to her health and wellness and I’m so proud of her! ~ Instructor Claire

We asked Madhura a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

It’s me, my husband Sam, our three boys, and our cat.

What is/was your career?

A silver lining to this strange year has been the opportunity to stay at home full-time with my family. In what seems like another lifetime I worked for the government and before that as a corporate lawyer.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My first class was Stroller Strides at the Wheaton Mall with Claire and I remember being nervous/excited to be working out so soon after having a baby and also thinking it was very weird we were doing it inside the mall!

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

I love the Body Well program - the small community of mamas and the classes, so you can find me there. I really enjoy the outdoor Body Boost classes on weekends as well. It is my time to myself, which is rare these days with everyone at home, and my time to be social, also rare right now.

What is your favorite FIT4MOM exercise?

My favorites are plank exercises like mountain climbers and plank jacks. I also hate to love the cardio highlight at the end of Body Boost workouts.

What has being a mom taught you?

I want to say patience, but that is a daily struggle. It has taught me that most messes can be cleaned up, a little affection goes a long way, and there is nothing too mundane to celebrate.

List 3 of your favorite things.

Arts and crafts, cooking, hanging out (and doing arts and crafts and cooking) with my family and friends.

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

When my oldest son was maybe 3, I heard him laughing loudly and I went to see what was going on. He was crying from laughing and he said (between loud guffaws) “Daddy is soooo funny!!!” Of course I asked why, and my son said, “Because Daddy said OWWWWWWWWW!!” “Why did Daddy say ow...?” “Because I kicked him in the penis!” I shouldn’t think this is so funny. But it gets me every time. Don’t worry, my husband was fine.

Any advice for other moms out there?

Try not to compare yourself to other moms, especially on social media. You are doing a great job!

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommocofrederick class?

Do it! And if it feels weird the first time, give it another try- it took me a couple of times to feel comfortable working out in public (and then when we went virtual, at home with everyone around) and not in a gym. But no one is looking, and if they are, they are thinking about how strong and awesome you look! I can’t imagine how this year of mostly being home would have been without being part of the Fit4Mom community. It has been such a source of support and cheer.
