January 2022 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for January! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local mamas at FIT4MOM Montgomery + Frederick Counties. We want to highlight her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Sara Yzaguirre!

Sara always comes ready to rock each SS class I teach ! Her energy and determination shines! She pushes through challenging moves with smile on her face! Keep going strong Sara and keep smiling :)! ~ Instructor Ewa

We asked Sara a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Me, my husband Ben, and our daughter Dahlia

What is/was your career?

In my 20’s I worked in curriculum development, then went back to school for a master’s in social work. I stay home with Dahlia right now, but my expertise is in trauma-informed therapeutic practices and curriculum/training in consent and bystander intervention.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

I think my first class was July—hard to believe it was nearly 6 months ago! I remembered being so thrilled that shimmering like this existed, where I could get Dahlia out of the house for safe socialization AND get in a workout. Everyone was so nice, and I felt comfortable right away.

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

We live right on the Germantown/Boyd’s line, so we have tons of playgrounds within walking distance. When it’s warm enough we often go to the south Germantown rec park; Dahlia’s favorite is the Adventureland playground. For now we are sticking to the outdoor classes, and If the weather’s ok (and Dahlia cooperates) I try to go to class 3 times week. I think the coldest out door class we’ve gone to was barely 40 degrees!

What is your favorite exercise that you have done with FIT4MOM (in Strides, Barre, 360, Body Ignite or Body Boost)?

I’d say stroller barre because I love Barre in general. I also like Strides. 360 is fun, but definitely a real challenge for me!

What has being a mom taught you?

To always add 30 minutes to any expected arrival time. I hate being late! More generally I’d say I’ve learned to be more flexible — it’s really hard to plan when you have a little one, and that’s ok.

List 3 of your favorite things.

Reading, coffee, and music.

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

This isn’t embarrassing, but it is amusing—at her second birthday party Dahlia had her choice of soooo many delicious foods, but for some reason she became attached to a plate of salad, which she showed off to people while carrying it around for about fifteen minutes.

Any advice for other moms out there?

I’m still figuring it out myself, but I’d say just be kind yourself; there’s no such thing as a perfect mom, and you’re doing a great job :)!

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommocofrederick class?

DO IT! (And don’t forget your water!)
