July 2022 MOM- Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for July! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local mamas at FIT4MOM Montgomery + Frederick Counties. We want to highlight her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Veronica Segovia Bedon!

Veronica is one of the most consistent moms I know. In work, wellness and at home, she is hard working and sincere. From her maternity pass in Stroller Strides, to many successful rounds of Body Well to Fit4Baby. She takes on every challenge and follows through. One thing I love about Veronica is that she is a connector. She always looks to form relationships with those around her because she is one of those women that truly wants everyone around her to succeed. I am proud to call her a friend! ~ Instructor Maya

We asked Veronica a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Immediate fam includes my spouse Eddie, son Antonio, 14-yr-old Yorkie Poo named Zuko, and our daughter, who is due August 4. My parents and in laws live nearby and my younger sister comes by all the time! She’s even worked out with me on a couple virtual sessions.

What is/was your career?

I work for a non-profit called AARP. I’ve worked in Brand, Communications (Social Media) for over a decade. A couple years ago I pursued a certification in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. I’m currently on the DEI team at AARP - hoping to one day be in a position to start my own consulting gig though. I’d love more flexibility to be with my family when I want to be (pandemic changed my outlook on what is most important to me). Before having children, I was a workaholic for sure.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My very first class was at Pike and Rose - where I lived! I highly recommend living there postpartum :) - so much to do! My son was about 12 weeks old and I remember Ewa’s voice saying, “ALRIGHT, LADIES!!!” with so much energy and I was definitely worried I was in over my head in terms of what I could do physically. I had only done post natal yoga until that point. I remember looking at my watch after the workout and being so impressed with what I was able to achieve going my own pace. Ewa also held my baby when he started crying so I keep up with my push-ups. It was a great feeling of finding a community/village I had heard so much about!

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

Well- I am nine months pregnant, so it’s a lot of walking these days! I also try to squeeze in a fit4baby class on Thursday or Virtual Barre. I had Covid early on in pregnancy and still feel a lot of fatigue. Rest is important and I make it a priority. I’m asleep before my 3-year-old on some nights!

What is your favorite exercise that you have done with FIT4MOM (in Strides, Barre, 360, Body Ignite or Body Boost)?

My faaaaave has to be Body Boost through Body Well. I enrolled in five sessions of Body Well in a row from winter 2021-winter 2022. They are absolutely incredible and I am so happy I committed to them with the intention to get my body ready for pregnancy number 2. I set a goal to lose weight, which I achieved, but I also gained so much in return in terms of setting boundaries and finding balance across diet, sleep, confidence/self care, movement and hydration.

I love Strides, too, because what’s better than working out with babies?!

What has being a mom taught you?

To slow down.

List 3 of your favorite things.

Oooo reality TV, eating out at a restaurant for a date night, and weeks at the beach with my Family.

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

Prob all the blowouts - is this too gross? I know they can be stressful but I’ll always remember how cute and innocent my son’s face looked when I was dealing with one. There was this one time I was driving to a workout and I parked, turned around to look at him and heard “the sound.” By the time I got to the back to change him, there was poop on his forehead - don’t ask me how! It was too funny to me.

Any advice for other moms out there?

Take care of you, mama. If you are well, everything else will fall into place. Prioritize yourself.

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommocofrederick class?

Show up! Call/Text me and I’ll come with you. I’m so happy and thankful that Coach Maya walked up to me that one morning when I was strolling with my son at Pike and Rose. She invited me to check it out and it made it less intimidating to me. I thought I had to be “in shape” already to participate and that’s just not true. The best time to start might have been yesterday, but the next best time is NOW.
