May 2022 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for May! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local mamas at FIT4MOM Montgomery + Frederick Counties. We want to highlight her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor.... Marian Steiding!

I’ve known Marian for years now…first through Stroller Strides when she would come with her son Luke, and now with her daughter Emma! She has always been very committed and is at almost every single class I attend and/or now teach. Marian (and her kiddos!) always have big, contagious smiles on their faces and she is such a strong, calm, hard working mom. I love working out by her side and then grabbing Starbucks with her and trying to enjoy it while also chasing our kids around . Keep it up, Mama! ~ Instructor Andrea

Marian is such an inspiring Mom. I love seeing her and Emma in class everyday (and Luke in the summer)! She is always open to chat and have fun, we have become not only workout buddies but also friends. She is an awesome Mom and shows her kids how to be strong and healthy. ~ Instructor Liz

I met Marian last year when we started in person classes and loved having her in classes . Luke would always talk to me about different kind of dinosaurs , Emma would smile every time I looked at her. Sadly I don’t see Marian and her crew anymore but I will always remember her constant smile and matching to outfit sunglasses 😎. ~ Instructor Ewa

We asked Marian a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

My husband Mark and my son Luke (5 yrs.) and daughter Emma (2 yrs. on May 20th).

What is/was your career?

I worked for the Arc of Howard County during college and after as a Community Intergration Specialist. After I got my degree I found a job working at the Security and Exchange Commission as a Administrative Security Assistant. I finally found my way back the Arc and started working for the Arc of Montgomery County as a Program Specialist for Community Services and Family Services Division. I am currently a stay at home mom but help my husband with our business Kenwood Auto Body.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My first class was with Heather. Luke was about 7 mos. I remember I had not worked out that hard since before I was pregnant! I was exhausted but felt amazing! I am painfully shy also basically Amelia Bedelia, so when I got to class and realized everyone was so warm and welcoming and moms were making mistakes and laughing about it I was hooked.

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

I am usually at Rio, Clarksburg Outlets or Urbana MTTHF for Strides and 360. I live in Laytonsville so it is easy to get to all 3 classes.

What is your favorite exercise that you have done with FIT4MOM (in Strides, Barre, 360, Body Ignite or Body Boost)?

My favorite even though I hate running ( but I still do it) is 360.

What has being a mom taught you?

I am a lot stronger than I ever thought I was both mentally and physically.

List 3 of your favorite things.

1. I love shopping! Going to the physical store and just walking around even if I dont buy anything. I love seeing stuff in person rather than shopping online.

2. Watching a show alone! I mostly watch shows standing in the kitchen while I cook dinner. But that me time is the best time!

3. Going out to dinner! Especially if it is just with my husband or with some friends... a nice peaceful meal.

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

Funny or embarrassing mommy moments happen on the regular for me but one in particular happened last summer. My son was playing at the Rio brand new playground when he fell in a gigantic muddy puddle. He was covered from head to toe in mud. I of course forgot a change of clothes but was nicely given at least a spare shirt by another Fit4mom Mom. He still insisted that we go to lunch after with friends. So because I was unprepared, my son went into a resturant with a long tshirt on and underwear. Lesson was learned and I now carry a ziploc change of clothes (sometimes).

Any advice for other moms out there?

Find your village! Fit4mom has really helped me find my village. I can text them, vent to them, bounce ideas off of them, and get great advice from them! I have been able to grow as a mom and not worry because I am actually doing a pretty good job.

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommocofrederick class?

It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Don't worry if you don't think you are fit enough or not the most athletic (trust me I am not) but after I am done working out (even if I walk or talk most of the time) I FEEL so much better.
