We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for November! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Melissa Gilley.
Melissa is such an inspiration to all of us! She is strong, energetic, and her smile is contagious! Despite the heartache and struggles she's been through, she has changed her lifestyle and is a true role model of what healthy living looks like. She even motivates and encourages others to make healthy changes in their own lives! ~Instructor Ewa
We asked Melissa a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:
1. Who are the members of your family?
Chris (husband), Emberlyn (5) & Wyatt (35 months)
2. What is/was your career?
Before kids I worked in the hotel industry in various positions. I am currently a stay at home Mom looking to find a new career since my kids are in school.
3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Montgomery County, and what has it done for you?
I joined the FIT4MOM community in 2011 when Emberlyn was one. FIT4MOM has been a great support system for me and my family. In November of 2012, I gave birth to twins, Wyatt & Brynn, 17 weeks early. I had just announced the genders at the Butler's Halloween Stroller Strides class. All the Moms came together to help in various ways. After the loss of Brynn, I received support to fund the memorial plaque. After Wyatt came home, I wasn't able to attend classes regularly and I was feeling depressed. When I heard about Body Back I knew I had to join. Body Back introduce me to a lot of new great supportive Moms. I was able to lose all my pregnancy weight and more! Working out and eat healthy are great, but having supportive women cheering you on is what makes FIT4MOM one of a kind!
4. What is your favorite class exercise?
I have a love/hate relationship with the plate exercises. I hate doing them but love how I feel after!
5. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
There is never enough time in the day to get things done.
6. List 3 of your favorite things:
- Weekend Getaways
- Anything with Pumpkin
Once Upon A Time (I never get to watch it when it actually comes on but it is On Demand so I can watch it)
7. What your proudest mommy moment so far?
When Emberlyn's teacher told me that Emberlyn is empathetic towards her classmates. When any doctor tells me Wyatt is doing better than expected!
8. Any advice for other moms out there?
You are a gift to your family, You are enough. We try so hard to "do" things for our kids but all we need to do is be present. Take time to really be in the moment and not worry about everything you had planned. Plans change so roll with it!
Thank you, Melissa, for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you!
Check back to see who our MOM will be in December!
