October 2018 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for October! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Lauren Scheffres!

Lauren seems to have a true zest for life! She is excited about trying new things and participates in many different class types! I really appreciate how thoughtful and intentional she has been with how/when to incorporate different workouts into her fitness routine. She always offers a warm smile and shows genuine interest in getting to know other moms at class! ~ Instructor Claire

Lauren ALWAYS shows up to class with a smile on her face ready to workout! Her positivity, humor and motivation is contagious. Lauren takes #alltheclasses! You can find her at Stroller Strides, Stroller Barre and Body Back {early morning or late evening!} She is a wonderful mother and friend. Happy to have her in our village! ~ Instructor Maya

We asked Lauren a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

My family consists of my husband Joe, our very energetic 2 year old son Gavin and our little girl Logan 7 months.

What is/was your career?

I work part time as a respiratory therapist at University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My first class was stroller strides at Montgomery mall. My friend Leslie was on maternity leave and I tagged along with her. I remember immediately thinking that I wish I had heard of it sooner! That day I looked up the schedule then communicated with Claire about how I could get involved with classes.

Where can we find you? What is your FIT4MOM routine these days?

Actually that's a current dilemma. I love strides at rio but now it conflicts with drop off at my sons school. Hoping this will give me the push to attend more early morning BB classes.

What is your favorite strides exercise?

Definitely the traveling/jogging between exercise stations and things like jumping jacks. I am a cardio junkie and want to use the hour to act as wild as my kids usually do.

What has being a mom taught you?

I have learned unconditional selfless roller coaster love. Through tantrums to smiles I love my kids passionately.

List 3 of your favorite things.

Hmmm wine, wine & wine. Just kidding. Favorites are weekends, long runs and YES WINE. Weekends together as a family are special, having my husband present to share diaper duty is a major plus also. Before kids I used to run constantly so if I sneak in a jog it feels great. A nice glass of red wine after both kids are asleep at night is nice and relaxing as well.

Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

Whoa, so many embarrassing mommy moments its tough to pick. Probably the funniest is while I was attempting to make it to body back at 5:30 AM unsure of exactly where to meet as it was slightly raining. Nursing was not on a schedule yet so I had to pump on my drive to class, I circled the area & parking garage once before parking. As I finished up in the car a nice man must have thought I was lost and approached my driver side window, we were both embarrassed immediately and I think the visual sight scarred him for life.

Any advice for other moms out there?

I am certainly in no position to give advice, I would just ask for everyone to be nice to one another. We all have lives we are trying to balance and I think simple acts of kindness & support would go a long way between mothers.

What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first #fit4mommoco class?

It's the best! Your not going to find anything like it to get a good quality work out with your children anywhere else.

Thank you, Lauren for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!

Check back to see who our MOM will be in November!
