September 2022 MOM- Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for September! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local mamas at FIT4MOM Montgomery + Frederick Counties. We want to highlight her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor....Jennifer Marshall!

If you looked up consistent in the dictionary, you’d probably see a picture of Jennifer. I first met Jennifer a few years ago when she began doing Body Back Transformation. She came in with the intention to make lifestyle changes and ever since she has stayed committed to herself no matter what obstacles have come her way. She consistently attends classes even after long days of work and motherhood. Over the years I have seen her get stronger both physically and mentally. Jen, keep showing up for yourself and working hard! That hard work and consistency ripples into your family and the village here at FIT4MOM. ~ Instructor Katie H.

I met Jennifer at her first Body Back class 3 years ago. We talked for an hour outside after class on a frigid February morning. Ever since she has made it a priority to get to class no matter what her day has thrown at her! She is a great inspiration for getting to those evening and early morning classes!! ~ Instructor Mandy E.

We asked Jennifer a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

Who are the members of your family?

Jennifer Marshall (Mom), William Marshall (Husband/Dad), Dean Marshall (Big Brother age 6) and Edward Marshall (Baby Brother age 2).

What is your hometown, and where do you live now?

Hometown is Gaithersburg, Maryland, currently reside in Clarksburg Village.

What is/was your career?

I am a Paralegal, currently working on a government contract in Washington, DC.

What is the furthest place you've been from home?

The furthest from home that I have been is Paris, France.

What is your favorite thing to do as a family?

I love to go to festivals, especially in the Fall. Exposing my kids to many different cultural experiences as possible to ensure that they are well rounded and have an appreciation for the various cultures around the world.

Favorite thing to watch on TV?

The Young Sheldon, Madam Secretary and Homicide Hunter. Also, anything Horror.

Your favorite song or artist?

I do not have a favorite artist, but I really love Metallica, Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Gin Blossoms, Bush, Alice in Chains and The Goo Goo Dolls. Also, the 90’s grunge scene was epic. Currently I am really enjoying the song “I Ain’t Worried” by One Republic.

List 3 of your favorite things or places.

My three favorite places are: Asheville/Hendersonville Area of North Carolina; The Adirondack Mountains and my mom’s house.

Your proudest moment.

My proudest moment was when I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Paralegal Studies from Stevenson University in 2017. At the time, I was working full-time in DC, commuting to work on the MARC, and nursing. After working a full day in the office, I would then commute to campus in Baltimore for my Senior Seminar. I did not get home until after 11:00 pm every Monday, just to turn around and go to work before the crack of dawn the next day. That semester was a challenge, but the end result was worth it.

Any advice for other moms out there?

Anything is possible, my favorite quote that got me through some rough patches is “Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.” No matter what is going on, keep moving forward, the rain must stop somewhere.

When was your first class with FIT4MOM, and what made you go?

My first class with Fit4Mom was in 2017 (I think) with Ewa. I was not happy with my body, I had let myself go when I was nursing, focusing more on being able to provide for my newborn than my health. I wanted to be able to keep up with a growing boy and learn how to take care of my body.

What is your favorite F4M MOCO + FREDERICK class?

My favorite class is Ignite. I really enjoy strength training and seeing the changes reflected in Boost.

Favorite exercise?

My favorite exercise is curtsy lunges with bicep curls.

How has FIT4MOM changed your life?

Fit4Mom has changed my life in that it has allowed “me time.” By allowing me to take time for myself and do something that I enjoy for myself, has allowed me to become an all-around better person. These changes are reflected in my relationship with my spouse and children.

What is your favorite thing about F4M MOCO + FREDERICK?

My favorite thing about Fit4Mom is being around other moms and not only sharing what is going on at home but listening to what others are experiencing in this journey of motherhood. It is nice to hear that what one person is going through, someone else may have gone through and to share tips on how to handle these difficult situations. It really is a community of amazing, supportive women.

Fall is coming - what's the best thing about that?

Fall Festivals especially the Renaissance Festival!

Pumpkin spice yay or nay?

Is good, but Chai is better.

What is the yum mist thing to make with alllll of the apples?

Apple Sharlotka
