Team Spotlight - April 2022

This month, the spotlight is on....

We have such a crazy amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM | MOCO + FREDERICK. I love giving everyone the opportunity to get to know a little more about each one of them, and if you saw our announcement at the beginning of the year, you know that I am SO excited to be publishing a spotlight each month again after a very long hiatus.

So with that, we're going to continue our instructor spotlight this month with.....Andrea Kenny!

Andrea has been an integral part of this #dreamteam for years now, and she's worn many different hats along the way. The thing that's remained consistent throughout the years is her optimism for FIT4MOM and what we do for and bring to our community in motherhood. She's always smiling, but more so on warmer days , she's easy to approach, and she's an incredibly hard worker. I always appreciate her willingness to lend a helping hand whenever one is needed!

I've had the opportunity to get to know Andrea well over the past few years, and I think if you know her personally, you probably already know how lucky you are. So if you haven't met yet, look her up on the schedule and make a point to find one of her classes to attend. You won't be sad about it!

No go on and read about Andrea's story with FIT4MOM!

xo, Heather

Tell us your {entire} FIT4MOM story!

I went to my very first Stroller Strides class when my daughter was a little over a year old. I had friends who did Fit4Mom in other states and I would see them post about their classes. I thought it was so perfect that you could spend time with your kids AND get a workout in all at once, and was so happy to find that there was a Fit4Mom in MOCO! I began going to classes more regularly when I was on maternity leave after having my first son, and then following a career change a few months later, I started attending classes almost daily. Eventually I became a playgroup captain at RIO. I loved being part of the #dreamteam and leading crafts and games with all of the kiddos. Playgroups are a huge part of what makes Fit4Mom so special, and I know how much moms appreciate those moments and keepsakes!

When I became pregnant with my 3rd child, I started attending Fit4Baby classes, which had just returned to Fit4Mom MOCO…perfect timing for me! I LOVED the program so much, that I decided that once I had baby #3, I would get certified to teach it. I’ve been teaching Fit4Baby for about 2.5 years and am now also the Fit4Baby Program Manager. I’m in the process of getting a few other certifications, and look forward to being able to teach more classes and see more Mamas!

The most important aspect of my Fit4Mom story is hands down all of the amazing women I have met and friendships I have made along the way. When I changed careers back in 2016, it was more than a career change. It was a lifestyle change and one that I had chosen so I could spend more time with my kids. As many of you know though, staying home with your children can be very difficult and lonely at times. I needed Fit4Mom for more than just the workouts. I needed to find out who I was as a mom and I needed the village to help and guide me and tell me that everything was going to be ok on the days that seemed very not-ok! I needed to celebrate my wins with people who “got it” and I needed to vent about my bad days with people who also “got it”! I wanted to be that person who “got it” for other moms when they needed it too. I needed my kids to learn how to have friends and have the opportunity to play with other children…but I also wanted to have more in common with those children’s moms than just the fact that we were both mothers. I have met some of my very best friends through Fit4Mom and my kids would say the same. The workouts are amazing and the programs geared towards moms cannot be beat…but the friendships…those are priceless!

What is your favorite exercise/activity to teach?

I love a good plie squat…especially for my prenatal moms. So much good can come from such a simple move when you really understand it!

What do you love about being part of the #dreamteam?

Fit4Mom has given my family and me so much over the last 7 years and being part of the #dreamteam allows me to give some of that back to other moms. Teaching Fit4Baby is an unbelievably rewarding experience and I absolutely love seeing these beautiful moms realize just how strong their amazing bodies are during such a special time in their lives. Then I REALLY love all the baby pics I receive once they have their babies :)

This team really lives up to its name. It 100% is a #dreamteam, starting with our fearless leader Heather who works so hard to make Fit4Mom Moco-Frederick what it is today. I love working alongside some of the most incredible moms and women I’ve ever met. The positivity, camaraderie and passion we all have for making the Fit4Mom experience amazing for #allthemoms really inspires me every single day to be my best.

How has FIT4MOM or this village helped you during such unusual times?

I literally don’t know what I would’ve done without Fit4Mom over the last 2 years. It kept me sane, it kept me motivated to move, it gave me some moments here and there to myself and it gave me things to celebrate! I also love all of the options that have come out of these unusual times. Nothing will ever beat an in person outdoor class…but on the days that I just can’t fit one into my schedule, it’s way less stressful knowing that I have virtual or VOD options!

What’s your why? Why do you keep doing what you do?

My “why” has evolved over the years. It started out as really needing Fit4Mom for myself and then it was me doing it for my kids. I wanted to set a good example for them and I wanted to teach them how important it is to stay healthy and moving. After becoming an instructor, then my “why” evolved to paying it forward to other moms. Now it is a combination of all of these things, but also not just physical health. I have learned that I really am much happier and a much better mom when I am consistently working out and living a healthy lifestyle. I truly believe that the exercise and social aspects of Fit4Mom contribute to my overall wellness and therefore, my family’s overall wellness.

What is a fun fact that our village may not already know about you?

Why is this always the hardest question?! Maybe I’m just not that fun ;)

My go-to story is that my husband and I had been friends for years before we started dating. We finally started dating when we were both training for a triathlon. He’s a much faster runner than I am, but we would do our training bike rides and swims together. Fast forward a few years later, and he proposed to me at the finish line of the Nation’s Triathlon :)

Is there anything else you’d like our village to know?

If you haven’t been to a class yet, GO! If you went to 1 class and your kiddo screamed the whole time so you don’t want to go back, GO BACK! We have all been there. There is a mom out there who needs your friendship as much as you need hers. I promise you that you will not regret it!
