Team Spotlight - December 2017

We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County, and I thought it would be nice if we could get to know a little more about each one of them. I'm excited to continue our spotlight this month with....Jessica McCann!

If you attend our Saturday family class on a regular basis, then you probably know Jessica! While she works full time during the week, we're lucky to have her teach a weekend or two each month!

I have known Jessica for many years now, and it has been so much fun to get to know her better. Jessica is a dedicated instructor and team member, and she has real experience in each of our programs as a client as well. Her attention to detail is impeccable, she's prompt with deadlines, and she always has fun stories to tell! I love when I get the opportunity to carpool to classes with her (now that we live about a mile from one another), because she ALWAYS has me laughing too! Jessica, I'm so thankful for your support and dedication over the past few years, and I thank you for continuing to spread the goodness that FIT4MOM offers our families! xo, Heather

1. Who are the members of your family?

The members of my family are my husband, Micah, our three children - Lily (7), Mason (5) & Chloe (3), and our pug Polly.

2. Where can people find you? Where do you teach?

You can find me teaching the family Stroller Strides class on Saturday mornings. I also love attending Body Back in the Kentlands or Rio.

3. Tell us your FIT4MOM story!

My sister was a Stroller Strides franchise owner in Hershey, PA and introduced me before I was even a Mom. Then I had Lily and eight weeks later I drove up to Hershey to attend my first class. The next day I came back home and signed up as a member with the Montgomery County franchise. My first class was in July 2010 in the Kentlands. I was instantly hooked. Within a few weeks I was making new mom friends, being invited to playgroups, and started shedding the baby weight.

I decided to become an instructor in October 2011 when I was pregnant with my second child. At the time they were really trying to grow the up-county classes. I was referred by another instructor who knew I was passionate about Stroller Strides and would be a good fit in this role.

Since then I had two more babies and don’t know how I would have survived it all without FIT4MOM. It’s so nice to be surrounded by other Moms who get it, who are similar to you, and who are in the same stage of life as you. The workouts always make me feel great, keep me strong, and motivated.

4. What is your favorite thing to teach our moms?

I love the squat and lunge variations, but I always try to make an effort to save extra time for ab work. I also try to choose exercises throughout class that really engage the abdominals for extra core work.

5. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?

The best thing about being an instructor is being able to share my passion for FIT4MOM with other moms. Even though I’m not that new mom anymore, I STILL remember those days. I always try to welcome all the moms with a friendly smile and a workout that will make them feel good about coming to class.

6. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?

Stroller Strides and the FIT4MOM village has become such a huge part of my life that I can’t imagine my life without all of this in it. I do work full-time so I have only been able to teach on Saturdays. I am grateful that I can continue as an instructor and love connecting with the other moms, and dads, on Saturdays.

7. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

I ran my first 10K in November during the Fall Run Club. The farthest I’ve ever run in my life was 3.5 miles and I never did a race before the Spring Run Club session. So this was a challenge for me, but I absolutely loved the training through the FIT4MOM Run Club. Heather and Kristy are great coaches and I loved connecting with the other moms on the team.

8. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?

I feel like I owe so much to this program. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express how grateful I am to be a part of it. Since this is my opportunity to be in the team spotlight I’m saying it now. THANK YOU to Cara, Heather, all the FIT4MOM instructors past and present, and all the moms past and present for everything these past 7 years. You guys are the best! xoxo
