We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County, and I thought it would be nice if we could get to know a little more about each one of them. I'm excited to continue our spotlight this month with....Maya Ammons!
I've known Maya for a little over four years now, and I've been lucky enough to see her step into the role of instructor, where she truly S H I N E S. She loves what she does, and that's clear in every class she teaches. She is one of those people who has a gift - the ability to make anyone around her smile (and hold that plank for an extra second). Her energy is amazing (& contagious!), and I'm so thankful to have her on this team! She's often a sounding board for me, she listens to my ideas (even when they're crazy), and she often has amazing ideas to bring to the table herself. Thank you, Maya, for all you do for FIT4MOMMOCO, for our team, and for me! If you haven't tried one of Maya's classes yet, get out there and give one a try! xo, Heather

1. Who are the members of your family?
The members of my family are my husband, Josh, our daughters Halle Reece (4) and Jordan (Jorie) Grace (2) and our mini goldendoodle, Teddy.
2. Where can people find you? Where do you teach/lead playgroup?
Moms can always find me yelling my heart out at Stroller Strides at the Rio on Wednesdays, as well as tucking and toning on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Stroller Barre in the Kentlands!
3. Tell us your FIT4MOM story!
Where do I begin? FIT4MOM saved me. I am a very social person and was itching to find new ways to get out of the house, meet new friends with children, and lose the baby weight. No chance I can find a way to do all 3 things at once, right? I was wrong! I joined Stroller Strides when Halle was 7 months old and I never looked back. FIT4MOM is my family. We averaged 4-5 classes a week as well as playdates with the children we met, weekend BBQs with new families, and moms nights out with my newfound girlfriends. I jumped at the chance to get certified to teach when I was pregnant with Jorie, and quickly began teaching all over the county. Last December, I became certified for Stroller Barre and I am so thrilled to be able to help bring this amazing toning workout to FIT4MOMMOCO!
4. What is your favorite thing to teach/do with our kiddos and/or moms?
Most of you know I absolutely LOVE leading a kids stroller strides class. L O V E! At home, my children “play” stroller strides with their baby dolls and baby strollers, and more often than not, have the moves DOWN! They can do burpees, high knees, mountain climbers, and more. All due to the fact that they watch us daily. A true example of healthy living is right in front of them in class. I love leading a kids class because they take it seriously, especially the big kids. My kids are always asking when the next one will be!
5. What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?
Being a cheerleader for moms is an amazing thing! I love pushing members to a new place. A place they may have never been able to get to before, or even thought they could! I often tell (or yell!) “Change does not happen in comfort zones!” and it is absolutely true. I want them to know I am here for them, pushing them, to become stronger than they were yesterday.
6. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?
My “why” is most definitely my daughters. Halle once told me she thinks I am a “cool mom” because I get to teach “all the moms” at stroller strides. She then said when she “grows up to be a mama” that she wants to be a stroller strides teacher too. I about fell on the floor! She is proud of me, and she loves what I do. I do all of this for them!
7. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?
I am certified in children’s yoga! Perhaps one day we will do a special playgroup ☺
8. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?
Lean on your village, continue coming to class, and have fun! Your kids will thank you for it, and so will your soul! These young years are so wonderful, but fleeting. I was just saying to a friend the other day, “Remember the good ole days where all we had to do was wake up, workout at stroller strides, and go home for nap time?” FIT4MOM has been such a large part of this second stage of my life - the “mom” stage- and I truly don’t know how I would’ve made it without this community of amazing, and strong, women.
Maya, thank you thank you for being such an integral part of this team! I appreciate all you do for all of us here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County!
Check back next month for our next spotlight!
