Team Spotlight - June 2019

You probably already know this, but we have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County. I thought it would be nice if you could get to know a little more about each one of them, and I'm excited to continue our spotlight this month with....Kelci Schuler!

The day I met Kelci, I knew she'd be an amazing addition to the #dreamteam. Boy, was I right! Kelci is a fantastic instructor who always plans fun classes, and when a member of our team needs help or coverage, she always steps up to help anytime she can. Kelci is kind, sweet, funny & {crazy} talented, she's beyond generous, and I'm so thankful to have her on our team! Honestly, I feel lucky even know her and her beautiful family. Kelci, thank you for ALL you do for #fit4mommoco, our team and our village (and in response to number 5 below - you're a BIG part, not a small one)! xo, Heather

Now read on, learn more about Kelci, and then go find her in a class!

1. Who are the members of your family?

My family includes my husband, Daniel, my two-year-old son, Harvey, and my three-month-old daughter, Cece.

2. Where can people find you? What is your role within FIT4MOMMOCO?

You can find me teaching Stroller Barre on Mondays at Wheaton and Stroller Strides on Wednesdays at Chevy Chase. When I am not teaching I am class hopping all over (Chevy Chase, Pike + Rose, Montgomery Mall, Wheaton, Silver Spring)

3. Tell us your {entire} FIT4MOM story!

When my son was 8 weeks old I had been cleared to work out but I didn't know what that meant for my body anymore. As someone who has always played sports and worked out regularly on my own I was at a loss of what getting exercise meant for me anymore. I was terrified to leave my 8 week old at a gym childcare center (plus most won't watch a baby that young anyway) and am not someone who can do home workouts - I need accountability! So I literally googled "workouts where you can take your baby" and Fit4Mom popped up. I sent an email asking about classes and Claire emailed me back right away and signed me up for the next morning at Wheaton. I was nervous to go so I got my neighbor to go with me. Harvey spit up everywhere that morning and we were VERY late to class. Still, we walked all around Wheaton until we found that class and I was hooked. I signed up that day and cried on my way home because I felt such a sudden belonging. I had finally found a group that would help me feel better physically while calming my new mom nerves. I was going to classes 4 plus day a week and loved it! I had thought about becoming an instructor and when the question was posed I knew I had to jump at the opportunity. I've been teaching since July of 2018 and haven't looked back.

4. What is your favorite thing to teach in class?

Oh, man. That is so tough. I would have to say I love some bridges - they are a sneaky burn.

5. What do you LOVE about being an instructor?

I really love helping mamas feel strong and confident. This community gives us strength in so many ways (physically, mentally and emotionally) and I am so thankful to be a small part of what makes each and every one of our moms a strong person.

6. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?

Hands down - my family. I do everything I do to be able to show up for my family every day with my best foot forward. I want to set a good example for my kiddos to see that mama takes care of herself to be able to take good care of them. I like gaining strength as my kids grow so I can continue to pick them up and hold them without feeling like they are too heavy. I like to be able to hike and explore new places with my family without feeling like I can't keep up. They keep me motivated to keep moving.

7. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

I worked at Qdoba for 5 years and can roll a mean burrito and make killer guacamole.

8. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?

I am so thankful for each and every person that makes up this village. I found who I was as a mama because of this community. I've been given strength and confidence that I wouldn't have had without Fit4Mom and that is because of all of you beautiful humans that make up this great group.
