May 2018 MOM-Motivating Mom of the Month

We are so excited to announce our MOM (Motivating Mom of the Month) for May! Each month we will take a moment to honor one of our local FIT4MOM Montgomery County Moms for her efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle and for her dedication to the program. This month we honor Kate Fullenkamp!

Kate has been a regular since her very first class! She is just plain FUN! She has fun playing with Allison before class (always early to Wheaton!), works hard but has fun with the workout, and is always staying after to be part of playgroup fun! Kate is a great mom and a great part of this Village! ~ Instructor Claire

No matter what the workout is, Kate always has a smile on her face. Her positive attitude is contagious, and it's always a pleasure to have her and Allison in class. ~ Instructor Ashley

We asked Kate a few questions so we can all get to know her better, and here is what she had to say:

1. Who are the members of your family?

My husband Josh and our daughter Allison. Allison will be two next month and baby number 2 will be arriving in early November!

2. What is/was your career?

I am currently staying home with Allison but I am an Early Childhood Montessori teacher and taught at The Woods Academy in Bethesda for over ten years. When I go back to teaching, I will most likely move into teaching ESOL in Montgomery County.

3. When was your first class, and what do you remember about it?

My sister in law, Melissa Boyle, told me about Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre. She knew that this was something that I would love so I took my first class last summer with her friend Maya and it was great.

4. Where can we find you? What is your Fit4Mom routine these days?

What is your Fit4Mom routine these days? This past winter I took a lot of classes at Montgomery Mall but my routine is usually Wheaton Mall and Downtown Silver Spring. Allison and I are excited to be outside again.

5. What is your favorite strides exercise?

Usually anything arm related because I can't seen to work my arm muscles enough on my own.

6. What has being a mom taught you?

I answered this question once as a question of the day and my answer seemed to resonate with the other moms. I said that being a mom has taught me to trust my insticts more because they have been spot on since having Allison. Being a mom has also taught me that "this too shall pass." One of the other Stroller Strides moms said, "everything is a season." We will get through it!

7. List 3 of your favorite things.

1. Being with my family

2. Being with my friends

3. Reading an awesome book that I can't put down

8. Give us a giggle- What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

I don't really have one particular moment but there have been many moments that make me laugh now that they are over. When Allison was about a month old, I was still trying to get into the groove of breast feeding and was doing it wrong or something and had (according to my doctor) made my breasts think I had twins! Needless to say, I was so uncomfortable that one day I had to pull over to take my bra off. I couldn't take it anymore! These are the things that no one can really warn you about, you just have to live through it.

9. Any advice for other moms out there?

Trust that you are doing great and don't be affraid to ask for help when you need it.

10. What would you tell someone who is considering attending their first Fit4Mom MoCo class?

All the classes are an awesome workout. You will feel so much better knowing you are working out, setting a healthy example for your children, and doing something good for yourself. I always enjoy the classes because it is nice to be around other moms who are going through all the same things I am going through. It is a really nice community.

Thank you, Kate, for being such a valuable part of Our Village here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County! We truly appreciate you & the positive energy you bring to class and Our Village!

Check back to see who our MOM will be in June!
