Team Spotlight - August 2019

You probably already know this, but we have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County. I thought it would be nice if you could get to know a little more about each one of them, and I'm excited to continue our spotlight this month with....Kate Fullenkamp.

When you’re in Kate’s presence she makes you feel like someone important. She is so kind and abundantly generous in word and deed. Not to mention she is a wealth of knowledge about children, education, and just general life in MoCo. What a pleasure it is to have her in our village. ~instructor Kim

Kate is such a joy to have in class! She brings great energy and she is always ready to work hard. I LOVE the crafts she has for our kiddos! You can also always count on Kate to help out in whatever way we need. She is a very genuine and thoughtful person and we are so lucky to have her as part of our #dreamteam and village! ~instructor Adrienne

Kate is so much fun! She is great at making kids and moms feel welcome at playgroup and during classes. Seeing her and her girls at class always brightens my day (and my kids love getting to spend time with her and her girls, too!) ~instructor Ashley

Kate has been such an amazing addition to our dreamteam. She jumps in to help whenever a team member needs it, whether it's leading playgroup or helping run large team events. I can't explain how much I appreciate you jumping right in, full speed ahead, Kate! We're lucky to have you! ~Heather

1. Who are the members of your family?

My husband Josh and I have been married for five years. We have two amazing daughters, Allison (3) and Maeve (9 months).

2. Where can people find you? Where do you teach/lead playgroup?

This summer I have been subbing all over and have really enjoyed meeting new moms and their kids. It is always fun to try out new locations. My homebase is Wheaton, so come by every Friday morning and stay after Stroller Strides for a fun playgroup.

3. Tell us your FIT4MOM story! Yes, the entiiiiiiire thing.

When Allison was six months old, I resigned from my teaching position at The Woods Academy in Bethesda. I missed being around other people so I tried joining a local gym to get out of the house and feel better/workout. BIG mistake! I actually felt more isolated going to the gym. I didn't meet anyone and Allison did not like it there either. I went to my first Stroller Strides class with my sister-in-law Melissa and knew that I would become a FIT4MOM member the second my gym membership expired. That was three years ago and I haven't looked back!

4. What is your favorite thing to do with our kiddos and/or moms?

I really love being a Playgroup Captain. It is such a perfect fit for me because I love doing crafting projects with the kids and being creative. It is also a great excuse to fall down the rabbit hole that is Pinterest!

5. What is the BEST thing about being a playgroup captain?

Planning and creating fun crafts and outings with Allison. She joins me at Michaels and helps me collect things around the house like toilet paper rolls and yogurt containers. I try to reuse as much as I can so that I am not wasting anything. I also love meeting other local moms and spending time with the other Playgroup Captains and amazing FIT4MOM instructors. It really is an awesome team of women!

6. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?

I am trying to be a positive role model for my daughters. I want them to see me taking care of myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually as well as helping other women too. When we go to Stroller Strides together, they see me working out and being social which is so important.

7. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

For years, I have coached the 5th and 6th grade girls lacrosse team at my old school. I used to love to play sports so it is really fun teaching the girls how to play as well as how to work together. Plus, the middle school years can be tough, so I like being there for them and letting them just run around and have fun.

8. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?

I am really looking forward to starting the Body back Transformation classes this fall if anyone wants to join me. As much as I love being with my family, I need an hour to workout by myself.

Thank you, Kate, for all you do and for being our spotlight this month!

Check back next month to learn more about another member of our #dreamteam here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County!
