Team Spotlight - January 2020

We have an amazing, dedicated and talented team of instructors and playgroup captains here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County. I love giving everyone the opportunity to get to know a little more about each one of them, and I'm excited to continue our spotlight this month with....Maya Ammons!

Maya is one of those people who I met in my adult life, yet I feel like I've known forever. We met when I was in my earlier days of teaching Stroller Strides, and she's been a friend through several huge milestones in my own personal life: my baby having surgery, me becoming the owner of this business (& hiring her as soon as I did), having another baby (both of us!), and the list goes on... Two things have remained constant through these years: her dedication to her family + fit4mom village and her ability to motivate and inspire those around her.

If you have been to Maya's class, or really even just been around her, you know that her personality can light up the room. She can make you smile and make you feel confident. She can make you push just a liiiiiiiiiiittle bit harder when you secretly knew you wanted to but didn't believe you could, and she does NOT give up on you. She is a fantastic instructor, a boss at social media, and somehow she's managed to still put up with me when she was a friend before becoming part of this #dreamteam. I'm so thankful to have her in my life, and this village wouldn't be the same if she weren't playing a major role in it.

Thank you, Maya, for being such a valuable team member and for helping me take my dream and turn it into a reality! I'm so grateful to work with you!

xo, Heather

Now read on, learn more about Maya and her family, and then go find her in a class!

1. Who are the members of your family?

Myself, Josh, Halle (7) and Jordan (Jorie, almost 5!)

2. Where can people find you?

You can find me at most mid-County locations! Monday Stroller Strides at CrossFit Hardshells, Tuesday Stroller Strides at Ellsworth Place, Wednesday Stroller Strides at the Bender JCC and Body Back in the evening at Wheaton Rescue Squad, Thursday Stroller Barre at CrossFit Hardshells.

3. What is your role within FIT4MOMMOCO?

I am a certified Stroller Strides, Stroller Barre, and Body Back instructor. I am the Stroller Barre Manager and I also run the social media handles, @fit4mommoco on Facebook and Instagram!

3. Tell us your {entire} FIT4MOM story!

I found Fit4Mom when Halle was 7 months old, in 2013. I took my first class and fell in LOVE. Stroller Strides quickly became a part of our daily routine. White Flint Mall, Lakeforest or Silver Spring class, playgroup or playspace and coffee with friends was the jam. Whenever we had an appointment or were unable to attend class, I had major FOMO! :) I became certified in Stroller Strides while pregnant with Jorie in 2014 and continued to further my Fit4Mom journey thereafter. Not only were my weekday mornings filled with Fit4Mom friends, my weekends were as well! Our entire families would get together on for BBQs and pumpkin patch trips. I also LOVED a good monthly MNO! These were the women I could call on day or night. And the friendships my children made were truly amazing. I can only hope other mothers can have just what I did. As I enter into my 7th year, I am honored to be able to now teach a new stage of mothers who are rushing out of the house as fast as they can to attend that morning class. This network connects mothers and fosters relationships so well; it’s the village you never knew you needed. It’s like we always say, those were the days.

4. What is your favorite thing to teach in class?

5. What do you LOVE about being an instructor?

I love being your morning or evening motivator! Often times, moms come into a morning class on zero sleep, or in the evening they are drained from the day. I love being the one to turn up the music and pump them up!

6. What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?

My daughters are my WHY. I love their love for fitness, and I love seeing their excitement when I am the one leading the class. It’s so important to set positive examples for our kids; they are sponges and truly are the greatest imitators. I continue to do what I do so I can help show other mothers the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

7. What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

I love to meditate! A simple 10 minutes per day can truly shift your perspective and help your daily gratitude.

8. Anything else you'd like Our Village to know?

Some moms think the Fit4Mom “phase” has to end when your kids get older, or you finish maternity leave. My kids may be busy with full time school, but us moms still love to get together. It doesn’t have to end because your kids grow out of the stroller, or you go back to work. It’s not just a small blip of our busy lives. We offer classes for all stages of motherhood. Don’t want to go to class? Totally fine! Join us for weekend family events and MNO!

Thank you, Maya, for all you do and for being our spotlight this month!

Check back next month to learn more about another member of our #dreamteam here at FIT4MOM Montgomery County!
